Dental Sealants/Fluoride at NorthShore

NorthShore provides sealants as a preventative service in the fight against dental decay (cavities). Brushing and flossing is the best way to help keep from getting decay, but our teeth often have pits and grooves on them that may be too narrow and/or deep for our toothbrush bristles to reach effectively. When this is the case sealants, a thin protective coating, are placed on the teeth at risk. Although sealants can last for years they may need to be reapplied over time.

Sealants are a quick and effective way to help prevent dental decay with no numbing or drilling involved!

NorthShore also offers fluoride treatments for the prevention of dental decay. Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral found in many of our water sources and foods we consume. Fluoride helps to rebuild (remineralize) weakened tooth enamel, and can even help reverse early signs of dental decay.

Fluoride is applied in-office in one of two forms: a foam or a varnish. After the application of fluoride your dental professional will give you special instructions regarding eating and drinking after use.

For patients with a more moderate or high risk for dental decay, your dentist or dental hygienist may recommend daily use of a fluoride toothpaste that they will prescribe to you via the pharmacy.
