Birth Control Options at NorthShore

There is a lot to be considered by women and men or couples when deciding which birth control method is the most suitable. Areas to consider include safety, effectiveness, and accessibility, including which method is the most affordable. When choosing a method of birth control, protection from the risk of HIV and other STDs might also be something you need to consider. IUDs and hormonal contraceptives have a high rate of preventing pregnancy; however, they do not protect against HIV and STDs.

When it comes to birth control methods, there are a variety of safe and highly effective options to choose from in order to prevent the chances of getting pregnant. These options include intrauterine (IUD) contraception, hormonal methods, and permanent birth control (sterilization).

NorthShore OB/GYN providers can assist you with:

  • Oral contraceptives
  • Transdermal patch
  • Vaginal ring
  • Depo-Provera
  • Both hormonal and non-hormonal IUDs
  • The implant

The OB/GYN doctors and midwives at NorthShore are available to help you make an informed decision that is right for you. By talking through what you need from a birth control method, any issues you have had in the past, and your insurance or financial constraints, your OB/GYN will be able to guide you in choosing the most appropriate and ultimately successful birth control method for you and your lifestyle.
