If your child isn’t feeling well at school, they can now see a medical provider without even leaving school grounds. NorthShore Health Centers offers telehealth services at Willowcreek Middle School, allowing students to have a virtual visit with a licensed healthcare provider from the school nurse’s office. Using special equipment and cameras, the healthcare provider can get a close up look at the student’s eyes, ears, skin, and throat. The provider can even listen to the student’s heart and lungs through a virtual stethoscope. With the help of the school nurse, the provider can diagnose and treat acute illnesses including strep throat, colds, coughs, the flu, ear infections, rashes, and pink eye. Limited lab testing is also available.
While the Telehealth Clinic is not meant to replace your primary care provider, it offers many advantages such as allowing your child to have a doctor’s visit without leaving school, allowing you as the parent to miss less work to take your child to the doctor, and getting prescriptions sent right to your pharmacy from the clinic.
Services provided at the Telehealth Clinic will be billed the same way as an in-person regular doctor visit. If you do not have insurance or if it does not cover the visit, we will work with the family on a case-by-case basis. No student will be denied services because of the inability to pay.
